David Bicarregui | Baritone and Composer

ABOUT

DAVID

British-Spanish composer and baritone, David grew up in Oxfordshire, initially training as a first study pianist. For David, composition was a natural part of the playing music.

David received a place to study on the prestigious Joint Course Programme between the University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College Music, completing two degrees across four years at the two institutions. David received First Class Honours from both institutions before entering into a Master's degree in singing and composition at the RNCM, where he is generously supported by the Ann Gerrard Foundation and is a recipient of the Sybil Tutton Opera Award.

David studies with Tom Coult. He is praised for the expansive soundworlds that he creates through his music and has a particular interest in writing for the voice, attempting to explore its inherent humanity.

Recent projects include Capsule, a chamber opera exploring the extremes of human psychology in a dystopian world, that premiered in Manchester in 2024 to two sold out houses. David is currently working on a series of pieces inspired by the works of Manchester-based French impressionist painter Adolphe Valette. The first, York Street, Manchester (mixed ensemble), premiered at the RNCM in 2025. The second, India House (orchestra), will premiere at the RNCM in late April.
