Spanish-British baritone and composer, David grew up in Oxfordshire, studying under Lynette Stulting as a first study pianist until the age of 18, under whose guidance he performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor. He studied singing with Andrew Yeats and switched to first study voice when he entered university.
David received a place to study on the prestigious Joint Course Programme between the University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College Music, completing two degrees across four years at the two institutions. David received First Class Honours from both institutions and will continue his education to Master’s level in September 2025.
David studied under Andrew Heggie at the RNCM, graduating with a First in the summer of 2024. He is praised for the warm, brilliance of his tone and his dynamic acting skills that bring naturality and drama to the stage. Alongside continuing his studies with andrew Heggie, David studies with David Kempster.
performing in professional opera productions since the age of 17, David has worked closely with world class stage and music directors over many years, including Jack Furness, Paul Carr, Matthew Kofi-Waldren, David Parry, and others. In 2022, David received the Michael Pendred Award from Oxford Opera Company for showing drive and potential within opera.
David has received tuition in masterclasses from Michael Fabiano, Kathryn Rudge, Ann Murray, Linda Richardson, Janet Haney, Patrizia Dina, Lynne Dawson and Nico de Villiers. David is fluent in French and Spanish.
Credits include L’imperial commissario, Madama Butterfly (Dorset Opera); Under The Greenwood Tree (chorus soloist), Le Nozze di Figaro, Le Roi de Lahore (Chorus Mentor, Dorset Opera); 2nd Armed Man, The Magic Flute (Oxford Opera); La Boheme, Carmen (Chorus, Oxford Opera); Father Frost, The Snowmaiden (RNCM Opera); La Traviata (Chorus, Ellen Kent Opera); Masetto, Don Giovanni (Opera in a Box); Bartolo, Antonio, The Marriage of Figaro (Kleine Opera and Oxford Touring Opera).

David began composing as soon as he began playing. As a young pianist, composition was a natural part of his playing process and a means to explore what he was feeling and thinking at the time. David completed many pieces as a teenager including his first major work, Song of Ourselves, an Earthen Requiem, a protest piece against societal attitudes towards climate change and the environment.
At the University of Manchester, David studied composition under Cameron Biles Liddell, Camden Reeves, Joshua Brown and finally, Kevin Malone, receiving first class recognition for his final composition portfolio which was an exploration of the voice in two pieces, Life Cycles and Spring-Touch. David’s opera, Capsule, premiered in Manchester in April 2025, produced by Quasi Productions, to two sold out theatres. Capsule will take to the London stage in 2026.
Tonality and harmony exist in a soundworld alongside atonality and dissonance, but to utilise only one would be limiting. David’s music takes the audience on a journey through familiarity to the unknown, resourcefully taking inspiration from David’s many different musical backgrounds. David’s music is deeply psychological. The textural creation of soundworlds not only mimics but influences the psychology of the audience. Audience and music come together in a discourse of emotion and thought.
